At the end of 2017, Primary Health Solutions implemented its first Centering program; CenteringPregnancy.  In 2019, in addition to expanding the CenteringPregnancy program already offered, Primary Health Solutions began offering CenteringParenting to provide the same level of care to parents and new babies.

CenteringParenting is an innovative approach to care for moms, babies, and families.  In the program moms, partners, family support members, and infants around the same age come together for checkups, immunizations, support, and conversation.  Centering is shown to provide better health outcomes and a better experience for patients and providers.  Centering isn’t just for baby, moms are able to discuss important issues with their providers such as weight, nutrition, stress management, and more.

Primary Health Solutions is one of the many organizations working to reduce infant mortality in Butler County.  Centering Programs is one of the means of doing so.  CenteringPregnancy has been shown to decrease the risk for low weight or preterm births and nearly eliminates racial disparities in preterm birth.  Once babies are born, there is still a need to make sure they reach their first birthday.  This is where CenteringParenting comes in.

CenteringParenting replaces the typical well-child care checkups for new babies and infants.  Groups start meeting together around the 2 month checkup and continue meeting together until the babies are two years old.  By meeting in this group setting, families are able to form long lasting relationships with each other and their providers.  Parents are able to monitor babies health and developmental goals while discussing important topics and learning about caring for their new baby.  Parents becomes equipped to make healthy decisions for themselves, their family and baby.

We’ve seen the benefit of Centering Programs and are excited to continue offering these programs as we work to expand our services to care for patients at every stage of life.
