Primary Health Solutions Announces New Director of Pharmacy Services, Craig Stiens

New Role Will Expand Access to Pharmacy Services

Craig Stiens, RPH PharmD, has been promoted to Director of Pharmacy Services at Primary Health Solutions, a non-profit, safety net healthcare provider serving over 32,000 patients in the Southwest Ohio area.

A native of Cincinnati, OH, Stiens is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College of Pharmacy with both a BS and PharmD. He is also an adjunct faculty at the University of Cincinnati, College of Pharmacy.

Stiens is credited with starting a pharmacy residency program specifically for residents working in long term care. The resident program is in partnership with University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy and is the first PGY1 ambulatory care residency with a focus on Long Term Care. Residents work on projects such as antibiotic stewardship as well as using telehealth to expand pharmacy services.

Prior to joining Primary Health Solutions, for over 9 years Stiens managed many departments within a long term care pharmacy. He started Medication Managers, LLC in July 2007, which provides numerous clinical services to long term care partners, servicing over 750 long term care facilities and 40,000 patients across the country.

Stiens has also contributed to the startup of multiple full service not-for-profit retail pharmacies in Ohio (Pharmacy OTR and Community First Pharmacy) and Kentucky (Home of the Innocents).

Stiens was initially hired by Primary Health Solutions in February 2016 to assist in Population Health Management, pharmacoeconomics and 340B management as well as provide clinical pharmacy services for the providers within the organization. He has also been a part of the interdisciplinary Diabetes Care Coordination Team which consists of a nurse, dietitian, behaviorist and the pharmacist, in collaboration with the medical providers.

In his new position, Stiens will expand the role of pharmacy services throughout the organization and in our community. He will provide oversight for compliance of the 340B prescription drug program, and will identify and eliminate barriers for patients who need access to affordable medications and pharmacist services.
