Primary Health Solutions & Edgewood City Schools Host Virtual Grand Opening Celebration

New Service for Students, Staff and the Surrounding Community

Trenton, OH - Nearly two years ago Edgewood City Schools and Primary Health Solutions (PHS) started to explore the possibility of bringing a comprehensive school-based health center to the district. After experiencing construction delays and a pandemic, in mid-July the center staff moved in and began to prepare for the school year.

"It's been an interesting process, but even with all of the challenges that we faced with COVID-19, we have been successful to bring a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility to the Edgewood School District and surrounding community." said Marc Bellisario, President and CEO of Primary Health Solutions. "This center will serve all the students of the district, with the consent of their guardian. School-based health is beneficial to families in that children may receive care during the school day with minimal interruption. Parents are always welcome, but not required to be at the appointment. This is especially beneficial for families who may lose pay for taking off from work, and for students who lose less classroom time by utilizing the center. It's also great for those times when the child becomes ill while at school." said Bellisario.

Initially there were hopes for an in-person grand opening, but for the health and safety of all, the decision was made to do a virtual celebration. On 10/8/20 the organization hosted a virtual grand opening that included the social media premier of a video designed as a tour of the facility and explanation of services, as well as an additional video production that was less polished and more fun, with the hopes of engaging students. There are prize promotions and information distribution initiatives underway to reach out to students and their families. Any child who turns in a completed consent packet through the end of October will be entered into a prize drawing that includes PHS merchandise, AirPods and an IPad.

Students, staff and families who become patients of the center may expect to receive a full complement of comprehensive primary health care services. Those services include primary care, comprehensive dentistry, mental health and vision care. Student transportation is provided by the school district with permission from the guardian.

There were a number of organizations who provided a tremendous amount of financial support for the project. Interact for Health came along side early in the project, providing a small planning grant and a substantial grant for operations. The school district built out the space at the High School, right inside the front entrance. Deaconess Associations Foundation, the Delta Dental Foundation and Molina Community Innovation Fund all made major contributions as well.

Tony Woods, Executive Chairman of the Deaconess Associations Foundation says “We’re pleased to provide support for the Edgewood school-based health center in providing essential healthcare services to the students, staff and families of the Edgewood community.”

“School-based clinics are an excellent way for youth to access dental care so they can stay healthy and excel in school and life,” says Holli Seabury, Executive Director, Delta Dental Foundation.

The health center is currently accepting new patients, accepts most insurance plans and offers a sliding fee scale for uninsured individuals. For more information please call 513-454-1111 or go to:
