We know at Primary Health Solutions the importance of providing services that make well-women care a priority. Even with obstacles, we encourage our patients to prioritize time to schedule regular OB/GYN exams and to meet with our providers.

Though many women don’t look forward to getting a Pap smear, they are an essential part of yearly well-women exams. Not only can they detect abnormal cells and potential cancerous growths but they can also be an immediate warning signal to potential health risks.

Pap smears are usually first introduced in women’s health routines starting at age 21. Since they are no longer recommended by community health guidelines to be conducted yearly if results remain normal, there are still benefits of having a Pap smear done.

Every time a patient visits Primary Health Solutions for her well-woman exam, we screen for healthy weight, domestic violence, depression, sexually transmitted and other vaginal infections while also checking for alcohol and substance abuse.

Breast and colon cancer screenings are also suggested over time depending on the risk and age factors of the specific patient. Even though these are not routinely included, we strongly urge patients to notify their doctor if they notice any unusual body changes or lumps that could be signs of a tumor.

For many teenagers and young adults, the introduction of contraception is a wonderful discussion between patient and provider. This optimizes the health of the patient before pregnancy and informs them of the potential risks and obstacles. The more dialog between the providers and their patients, the better the relationship.

All of these benefits should be taken into consideration for patient’s unsure whether to schedule a yearly exam. Our providers are highly trained and available to guide you along your health journey. It’s never a bad idea to put yourself first to ensure a healthy body and mind.

Primary Health Solutions continues to strive in providing patient-centered services through our medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services. With a growing female patient base, we continue to take initiative in guaranteeing a streamline of women’s health services within our centers.
